    Faculty presentation

    The Faculty of Mathematics was established in 1948 as a component of the Pedagogical Institute of Timișoara. Starting with 2004, the Faculty of Mathematics changed its name to the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. Mathematics and Informatics are priority fields of study that have led to the extraordinary technical development of our civilization. In 2025, following the accelerated development of the field of informatics and the expansion of academic programs dedicated to it, the faculty became the Faculty of Informatics, reflecting the central role of information technology in education, research and innovation.

    Our faculty is committed to providing its students with:

    • the possibility of becoming specialists in the field of computer science;
    • modern, high-quality academic programs at bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels;
    • access to state-of-the-art equipment and excellent study and research conditions.

    The academic community within our faculty is dedicated to consolidating the prestige of the West University of Timișoara and the Romanian university school.

    For admission to bachelor's degree programs, candidates who obtain team awards in national/international school competitions in specialized disciplines relevant to the fields of Mathematics and Informatics (Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Information Technology, Robotics), may equate one of the grades included in the calculation of the admission average, whatever it may be, with the grade obtained based on an interview and the evaluation of the personal portfolio with the results obtained during high school studies (based on the supporting documents uploaded on the admission platform).

    The portfolio assessment and interview will be planned and conducted before the admission exam, during the admission application submission period, by a committee established at the faculty level. The assessment grid for the interview and portfolio will be established by decision of the Faculty Council and published on the faculty website and the website www.admitere.uvt.ro.

    List of documents required to register for the admission process

    The documents required for the application file for undergraduate university study programs within the Faculty of Informatics are the following:

    1. ID card;
    2. Birth certificate;
    3. Marriage certificate - if applicable;
    4. Baccalaureate diploma or equivalent diploma. Candidates who passed the baccalaureate exam in the sessions corresponding to the 2025-2026 school year can upload to the admission platform and present at the collection points the documents necessary for the admission process from the UVT offices and from the county admission centers organized by the UVT, for the admission session immediately following the session in which they passed the baccalaureate exam, instead of the baccalaureate diploma, the certificate issued by the pre-university education unit in the original or a legalized copy, which mentions the general average from the baccalaureate exam, the grades obtained in the tests taken at this exam, the validity period and the fact that the diploma has not been issued.
    5. Medical certificate issued by the family doctor, the doctor from the school medical office or from a student medical office, no older than 90 days from the date of its presentation at the document collection office, attesting whether the candidate is fit to enroll in university studies and, if applicable, the chronic conditions from which the candidate suffers (neuropsychiatric, psycho-pathological, pulmonary, dermato-venereal, disability (type, degree) etc.). Specific learning disorders (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia etc.) or possible special educational requirements will be attested by a diagnostic certificate;
    6. Certificate attesting to the completion of another undergraduate university study program (completed or not at the time of submitting the file), mentioning the funding regime in which each year of study was completed (with funding from the state budget/with a fee, if it is/was carried out at a state higher education institution in Romania) and, if applicable, the years and semesters of study in which the student benefited from the scholarship, respectively its type – if applicable.

    The documents required for the application file for master's degree programs within the Faculty of Informatics are the following:

    1. ID card;
    2. Birth certificate - for UVT graduates of undergraduate studies who were admitted to undergraduate studies starting in 2020, it is not mandatory, and can be taken from the existing file for the undergraduate studies cycle, except in the case where the candidate has been issued another birth certificate since that time;
    3. Marriage certificate - if applicable;
    4. Bachelor's degree or diploma equivalent to it, accompanied by the supplement to the diploma, or certificate of completion of undergraduate university studies, accompanied by the transcript, for candidates who graduated from undergraduate university studies in the current year; UVT graduates of undergraduate studies in the current year do not need to upload the certificate of completion of undergraduate studies and the transcript on the admission platform in order to apply for master's studies in the same year, the results of the final examination of undergraduate studies , respectively the average of the years of undergraduate university studies, being taken over in the candidate's file directly by the admission committees of the UVT faculties;
    5.     For the undergraduate cycle, candidates who are Romanian citizens or citizens of member states of the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation, as well as British citizens and their family members, as beneficiaries of Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community 2019/C 384 I/01 (British citizens who are in Romania and continue to reside on the territory of Romania after the end of the transition period of the withdrawal process of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union, established according to Article 126 of the Withdrawal Agreement for December 31, 2020, their family members who accompany them or who join them after the end of the transition period if they had the status of family members before its end, as well as children born or adopted after the end of the transition period, provided that proof of registration from the General Inspectorate of Immigration within the Ministry of Internal Affairs is presented), who completed their high school studies outside Romania, as well as those who hold study documents issued by education providers that provide pre-university education activities based on a curriculum of another state, on the territory of Romania, must present, in addition to the above documents, the document of equivalence/recognition of studies issued by National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (CNRED). In the case of recognition documents issued online by the specialized departments within the Ministry of Education and Research, they are uploaded in electronic format to the admission platform by the candidate, within the deadline established for registration by the own regulation regarding the organization and conduct of the admission process at the level of each faculty, and do not require certification according to the original by UVT operators. The necessary documents and the procedure for the equivalence of studies completed outside Romania are mentioned in Appendix 2 a Regulations of the West University of Timisoara (UVT) regarding the organization and conduct of the admission process for university study programs at the bachelor's degree level.     Planning to take the language proficiency test - English Language​

    • Candidates who have opted for study programs taught in English and do not hold a Cambridge, IELTS or TOEFL language proficiency certificate will be scheduled for the online English language proficiency test between July 13 and 20, 2026.

    Accommodation policy

    Student accommodation in dormitories owned by the West University of Timișoara is carried out in accordance with the UVT Dormitory Accommodation Regulations, within the limit of available places allocated to each faculty.

    Students enrolled in the full-time form of education, who are following the respective university study cycle (bachelor's, master's or doctorate) for the first time, can benefit from accommodation. Students following a second university study program in the same university study cycle can benefit from accommodation only if there are places available after the accommodation of students who are following the respective university study cycle for the first time. Students with permanent residence in Timișoara or in peri-urban localities with public transport to the city cannot benefit from accommodation in UVT dormitories.

    For first-year students, the distribution of accommodation places in UVT dormitories allocated to this category of students is done in descending order of the score calculated based on the admission average and extracurricular activities or taking into account social criteria, where applicable, in accordance with the provisions of the UVT Dormitory Accommodation Regulations. Disadvantaged students, students from placement centers or students with disabilities are given priority in the distribution of accommodation places.

    To enter the process of allocating an accommodation place in a UVT dormitory, students will have to submit an application to this effect on a dedicated digital platform, after completing the admission process. Students will be informed through the institutional e-mail addresses they will receive after completing the admission process about the calendar and the method of submitting the application to enter the accommodation place allocation process.

    When completing the application on the online accommodation platform, students are encouraged to select all available dormitory options for their faculty, to maximize their chances of obtaining a place. Notifications regarding the allocation of accommodation places are sent both by email and to the account on the accommodation platform.

    UVT has several student dormitories, some located in the Student Complex in Timișoara (C12, C13, C15, C16, C17, Drept Dormitory, Piața Sf. Petru Dormitory) and others outside it (C3 dormitory, Camelia dormitory), all equipped with internet and cable TV connection, washing machines, dryers and kitchens.

    International study / practice mobility opportunities

    Students of the West University of Timișoara have access to international mobility opportunities and internships, managed by the International Relations Department (DRI) of UVT.

    The main internationalization program is Erasmus+, through which students can carry out study mobilities (one semester or one academic year, within the limit of 12 months/study cycle) or internship mobilities at partner institutions throughout Europe, benefiting from monthly grants to support their academic activity in the partner countries. The credits accumulated during the mobility period abroad are recognized upon return based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). To participate, the student must have a weighted average of at least 7,00, be a full-time student at the time of departure and have knowledge of a foreign language at a minimum level of B1.

    UVT students also have various short-term internal or international mobility opportunities available, such as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP), lasting between 5 and 30 days, as well as virtual mobility opportunities.

    In addition to Erasmus+, students can also access international opportunities through other programs, including CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) or those managed by the University Agency of Francophonie (AUF), the Romanian-American Fulbright Commission or the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

    Furthermore, UVT is a member of the European Alliance UNITA (supported by the European Commission within the European University initiative), together with 12 universities from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Ukraine and Romania. Membership in UNITA represents a context in which UVT students will have access to unique opportunities at national and European level for professional and personal development (virtual international mobilities, international internship programs in rural areas, training courses, projects with and for students, competitions for students in topical areas: Cultural Heritage, Renewable Energies, Circular Economy, Intercomprehension as a form of communication, European Citizenship).

    Active faculty students` organizations

    The West University of Timisoara (UVT) promotes and encourages student involvement in the life of the university community by carrying out volunteer activities within student organizations.

    Several student organizations are active at UVT, as follows:
    - Student Organization of the West University of Timișoara (OSUT) - representative student organization at the UVT level, according to the University Charter;
    - Bessarabian Students' Organization from Timișoara (OSB Timișoara);
    - Association for Romanians everywhere "Initiative";
    - Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC).

    In accordance with the provisions of article 87, paragraph (2) of Charter of the West University of Timișoara, UVT students can receive transferable credits for involvement in volunteering activities, the conditions for students' participation in these activities and the method of granting credits being established by the Regulation on the granting of credits for volunteering.

    Facilities for faculty`s students (including students with disabilities)

    The West University of Timisoara (UVT) offers its students a wide range of facilities and opportunities to support the educational process, for social support, for counseling or for personal development. The main facilities available to UVT students can be consulted by accessing this LINK.

    Also, at the UVT level, the Department of Inclusion and Support for Students with Special Needs (CISSNS) operates, which fulfills the role of a specialized academic structure for the provision of inclusion services, in the academic environment, for people with disabilities/special educational needs.

    For the West University of Timisoara (UVT), the constant development of opportunities for students across the country is a permanent priority, proposing a diverse set of activities and events dedicated to them. Thus, every year, through its component faculties, UVT organizes competitions for students in fields of university studies in which study programs are carried out, aimed at encouraging academic performance among the "students of tomorrow".

    The following competition is being held for students at our faculty, and its winners can benefit from the following facilities in the admission process:

    The awards obtained at the Faculty of Informatics Competition can be equivalent to a score of 10 on any of the tests taken into account for admission to the Faculty of Informatics at UVT.
